Police investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident in Chessington have made a fifth arrest.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said that a fifth person — a seventeen year-old male — was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday (August 26) and later released under investigation.

So far, four other people have been arrested in connection to the horrific incident, which prompted a murder investigation from the Met Police soon after they were called to the scene in the early hours of Friday, July 26.

As the Comet reported previously, the hit-and-run attack claimed the life of Chessington man Liam Dent after he was "dragged under a car for some distance" according to police.

Mr Dent, who was 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination held at Kingston Mortuary on July 27 established the cause of death as "injuries consistent with a collision."

The car believed to have been involved in the incident, a Ford S Max, was found burnt out on Cyclamen Way in Epsom, approximately one mile from the crime scene.

Since then a further two vehicles have been recovered.

Other than the man arrested on Monday, the four other people detained by police investigating the hit-and-run are:

  • A 17-year-old male [A], arrested on suspicion of murder by officers in Surrey on behalf of the Met on August 1. He has since been bailed to a date in September.
  • A 22-year-old man [B] was arrested on suspicion of murder on August 8 in Epsom. He has been released on bail to a date in September.

  • A 17-year-old girl [D] was also arrested on on August 15, on suspicion of assisting an offender. She has since been bailed to return on a date in mid-September.
