A Croydon man who threatened to share nudes of victims he met on dating apps unless he was paid has been jailed.

Patryk Hrymak, 27, of Norbury Crescent, was sentenced to two years and four months for eight counts of blackmail and two counts of disclosing photographs and films with intent to cause distress.

Hrymak would meet his victims on an all-male dating app, before moving the conversation to online messaging and exchanging naked images.

Giving the impression that he intended to meet up with them, Hrymak would insist the victim to confirm who they were by providing social media profile details.

Once he had gained access to the victim's phone number and social media contact, Hrymak would threaten to send images of them naked to their social media contact unless they paid him.

Many of the victims blocked Hrymak and reported him to police, however one victim paid him £12 to prevent him sharing the images.

In six of the eight cases, Hrymak sent images to the victim’s contacts.

Officers arrested Hrymak at his home address in Croydon on 14 November 2018.

He was subsequently charged with eight counts of blackmail and two counts of disclosing photographs and films with intent to cause distress.

On 25 July 2019 he appeared at Croydon Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to all counts.

Detective Constable Keval Varia, investigating, said: “The victims in this case were contacted via a male only dating app, however anyone using any form of online dating service, should be wary of sending intimate photographs of themselves.

"Think carefully about what you share with people online.

“I hope that the sentence handed down brings a measure of closure for the victims.”
