A COMMUNITY group has been awarded £2,000 in Tesco funding to run sessions connecting people that suffer from anxiety and depression with nature.

MindFood in Ealing was selected by Tesco customers in the borough for the grant through the supermarket’s Bags of Help scheme.

It is the 50th group in Ealing to benefit, and its grant takes the total funding awarded in the borough to more than £150,000.

MindFood will use the money for its Mindfulness in Nature project.

Founder Ciaran Biggins said: “There are more than 36,000 people in Ealing with a common mental health disorder and these figures are set to increase by around 4 per cent by 2020.

“With this funding, we will offer a new weekly mindfulness in nature session at our food growing sites at Horsenden Hill and Cleveley Crescent.

“We passionately believe that spending time in nature is the perfect place to practise mindfulness. The sessions will also help people to feel more involved in their community, adopt healthier lifestyles and connect more with the natural world.”

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund projects that bring benefits to communities. Anyone can nominate. To find out more, visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp
