Green-fingered residents young and old still have time to enter the Epping Horticultural Show due to be held over the bank holiday weekend.

From the largest sunflower petals to the ugliest vegetable, around 100 people are expected to enter the competition at St John’s Church in Epping.

Flower arrangements, jams, chutneys, fruits and cakes makers and growers will be hoping to walk away with the top prizes at the sixth annual event.

Victoria Robertson, a comittee member of the Epping Horticultural Show, said: “We are trying to bring everyone together with flower and cakes. They can download the entry form which is on the poster.

“We are looking for more children to enter this year as we are trying to engage with the youth because we know they are the future of the show.

"I will be doing a live demonstration how to make a corsage which is a floral art skill and we are showcasing a lot around roses this year, we show how to preserve them and how to make a number of things."

To keep guests fed and watered, a vintage styled tearoom will transform the interior of the church where afternoon tea will be served.

Epping Horticultural Show will take place on Saturday, August 23 at Epping St John’s Church, for more information visit
