This week’s streak of sunshine is coming to an end as a yellow warning has been issued for the weekend.

The weekend may be best spent indoors, as heavy rain and the possibility of thunderstorms is expected to disrupt plans in London and the rest of the UK.

Here’s what the Met Office has said about the yellow rain warning:

What areas does the warning cover?

The yellow warning covers most of the UK.

It includes most of London, Watford, Borehamwood and St Albans. These areas could face heavy showers, thunderstorms or strong wind throughout the weekend.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

When should I expect heavy rain?

The yellow warning for heavy rain in London will be all day throughout Friday. Thunderstorms may occur early in the morning.

Saturday will be drier for London, yet strong winds, particularly during the daytime, is expected to cause disruptions.

By Sunday, only northern areas in the UK including Lancaster and Newcastle will be affected by thunderstorms. Watford should see sunny intervals with a moderate breeze.

What should I expect?

A small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater is expected around London on Friday, with the possibility of homes being damaged or flooded by flooding and a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

Saturday’s winds are expected to cause disruption to some bus and trains services on exposed routes and bridges. The wind could cause fallen trees and a short term loss of power and other services.
