The owner of a little "placid and playful" puppy born with six limbs has shared the extraordinary story of her beloved pet.

Roo, crossbreed between a Staffe and Labrador, is doing well despite the extra limbs at the front of her body.

Lauren Salmon, from Orpington, said her son, Luke, 15, wanted a new dog and was immediately drawn to Roo after seeing her advertised online.

"He was adamant it had to be her," his mum, 33, told News Shopper. "He takes her down in the morning and feeds her, she plays with our other dog and then she comes up for a nap in his bed."

Lauren said Roo, now eight weeks old, can move freely, is on weight and "full of life".

She added: "There’s no reason why she won’t have a happy life.

"It wouldn’t be right that she was put down just because of these stumps. She didn’t ask for this and I want to raise awareness about her and others like her."

Lauren has started a fundraiser to help pay for Roo to see a specialist – costing £250.

On the GoFundMe she wrote: "Please help Roo get the treatment she needs by donating anything. Even a £1 - no amount is too small.

"This little girl and others like her deserve a chance."

The pup may have the stumps amputated or may need a harness on wheels for when she gets bigger.

"My vet doesn’t see any reason why she would need to be put to sleep because she is so full of life," Lauren said.

Lauren, who works as a carer, said her family is made up animal lovers and believes people may not realise how complex it is for a pet to have extra limbs.
