Cyclists taking part in this year's Ride London event will be hoping repair works can be carried out on time, otherwise their trek through Wimbledon may be a little tricky.
Last week a hole opened up in Worple Road which has resulted in emergency repair works having to be carried out by Thames Water.
As a result, the road has been closed and diversions put in place.
But with the annual cycling event to once again travel through Worple Road (and Merton on the whole), the question was asked whether the road would be fixed in time for cyclists to travel through.
Thames Water says it will, but not with much time to spare.
“We’re sorry to anyone affected by the road closure," A spokesman for Thames Water said.
“This is due to important repair work, which will prevent sewer flooding and protect the environment.
“Our engineers were quickly on site and are working hard to fix the issue as soon as possible.”
He added that the road is "expected to open" by Friday, August 2, just one day before the Ride London event is due to begin.
Riders will begin travelling through Merton when they hit Wimbledon Park Side before turning onto the High Street.
They will then continue down Wimbledon Hill Road before, hopefully, turning into Worple Road.
The route then takes them through Coombe Road in Raynes Park before making their way to Norbiton.
