An ex-employee of a coach company has criticised the business after one of its drivers, whose coach struck and killed an elderly woman in Putney, was seen driving for the company again three days later.

Police were called just before 8pm on July 1 to Upper Richmond Road following reports of a crash.

The woman, aged 86, was taken to hospital, where she died a short time later. No arrests have been made.

But the former employee of Premium Tours, who wished to remain nameless, said he was "horrified" when pictures posted in a Whatsapp group (and seen by the Wandsworth Times), showed the driver involved in the July 1 crash, back behind the wheel that same week.

"Clearly whilst the police are still investigating the incident the driver should surely have been suspended," he said.

"I am horrified to see how nonchalant and blasé the management is being over such a serious incident.

"The pictures were taken by past and present employees who are disgusted by the attitude and feel that it is in the public interest to know how they are behaving."

When initially contacted for comment, group CEO for Premium Tours, Neil Wootton said: "Given the nature of the incident and also given that the accident is still under police investigation I can not give you much information suffice to say that it is an extremely sad event and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the lady who sadly passed away as a result of the accident."

Then when asked the question of whether the company felt it was appropriate that the driver had gone back to work so quickly, he added: "Again it’s not a question we can supply much information on apart from to say that the police interviewed the driver, reviewed cctv footage during the evening and subsequently released the driver saying they would be back in contact only if they required further information."

Mr Wootton did not respond to a question to confirm in what capacity the driver was allowed back to work.
