Plans for more than a dozen new flats and a new restaurant in Greenwich have been submitted to council planning experts.

Oat Developments have put forward the scheme for land in Norman Road, close to the North Pole bar in Greenwich.

Originally part of a major scheme involving a boutique hotel that has not materialised, Oat purchased the land and is now planning 14 flats.

The developer said there are already hotels in the area, claiming that new flats would go towards the borough’s housing stock.

In their planning application, it reads: The proposed high quality modern building is influenced by the proposals of adjacent sites and will utilise the site well, whilst providing a useful addition to the housing stock in the borough. ”

If approved, the five-storey block would consist of six one bed flats, seven two bedroom apartments and one three-bed family unit.

There is also space for a restaurant on the ground floor with a garden, but there are no details on what type of eatery it would be at this early stage.

The developers added: “The proposal responds to the changing scale and pattern of buildings on Greenwich High Road and Norman Road, and forms a positive relationship with its adjoining neighbours in terms of height and massing to ensure that the new building remains subservient in scale to surrounding.”

The plans are currently being assessed by officers at the council with a decision expected in the coming months.

Housing is a priority for Greenwich Council, which is preparing to spend millions developing its own new-builds as it looks to combat a homelessness crisis.

The council is spending nearly £2m more on homelessness than it was in 2015.

Last year, £8m was dedicated to homelessness, compared to £6.1m in 2015/16.
