SIXTH-form student Gurman Hansra is in the enviable position of having both a Cambridge University offer and the opportunity to fly jets over Arizona after he completes his studies at UTC Heathrow this summer.
Gurman, who joined the Northwood college in Year 10, has just completed his maths, further maths and physics A-level exams and aims to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot.
He said: “I feel so overwhelmed to have received an offer from Cambridge, as well as my chosen direct aviation route. I have decided to go with becoming a pilot.

“I will be going to flight school in Oxford, which is self-funded and guarantees me a job at the end of it with a private chartered firm.
“Flight school starts in December and is for 18 months. I will start on the ground and build up to my exams. I will then fly out to Arizona for six months to fly planes every day to build up my hours in the air.
“I applied to join UTC Heathrow without telling my parents, or anyone else. All my friends were staying at my previous school, but I knew I wanted to go into aviation, and my school didn’t specialise in this.”
