There is still time to sign up for those daring enough to brave a charity mud run next month.

St Clare’s Muddy Mayhem is a five-kilometre course with 40 obstacles to battle throughout the challenge including a zip-wire.

It’s hoped that this year’s event will raise more than £5,000 for the Hastingwood-based charity, who offer specialist palliative care for people living with a life-limiting illness.

“We’re looking for as many people as possible to come along to Muddy Mayhem this summer,” urges Emma Broadbent, St Clare’s challenges and events fundraiser.

“This will be our second mud-run event we’ve hosted with Nuclear Races – and if it’s anything like last year, we know it’s going to be a hugely fun and exciting event for all involved.

“Taking part in a mud-run is so exhilarating and is definitely an experience I’d encourage everyone to do – especially when you know you’re raising vital funding for your local Hospice.”

Rose Morris, 65, from Harlow, has convinced some of the people in her gym at Mark Hall Sports Centre, to join her in taking on the Muddy Mayhem challenge.

“It’s a great challenge for me to do the 5k,” said Ms Morris. “I used to be in the army and this is a bit like one of the activities I would have done as part of army training and, like the army, it’s great to be doing this as part of a team.”

Those interested in getting muddy for charity can register via St Clare Hospice’s website at stclarehospice.org.uk/muddymayhem, either individually or as part of a team.

Alternatively, you sign up on the day from 10.15am, with the run setting off at 11am at Nuclear Races in Brentwood.

Registration is £50 per adult and £40 for 13 – 17-year-olds. Participants may also choose to raise additional sponsorship in aid of St Clare if they so wish, as a donation to help fund the Hospice’s care and support for local people.
