A bus stop that has been missing for 15 years could soon be reinstalled in Crystal Palace.

When the one-way system was introduced a bus stop on Central Hill ‘went missing’ and was never replaced.

Consultation officer at TfL, Michelle Wildish, told a meeting of Croydon Council’s public transport committee that work was underway to get it reintroduced.

But it involves working with both Croydon and Lambeth councils as Central Hill is the border between the boroughs.

She said: “There are no current plans for a new bus stop on the hill but we are exploring the introduction of one.

“When people ask for a new bus stop we look at usability and traffic congestion.”

If the bus stop was introduced it would be in between Rockmount Road  and the stop outside Budgens on Westow Hill in the direction of Crystal Palace.

There is half a mile between the two existing stops.

Ms Wildish added that a new bus stop would result in a loss of parking in the road.

Chair of the panel Councillor Muhammad Ali said that the additional stop could encourage more people to get out of their cars.

He added: “If we have to get people out of cars we have to put some serious investment in public transport.

“We still haven’t seen the benefits of additional bus services in central London in Croydon.”
