A care home in Leatherhead are asking for help to solve the mystery behind an old photo of the building and its former residents.

Care UK’s Milner House, on Ermyn Way in Leatherhead, launched an appeal Wednesday (June 12) to identify the people featured in an old black and white photograph (pictured), taken outside the home decades ago by Epsom-based photographer, Frank Woods.

Staff at Milner House want help identifying those pictured in the photograph, and hope to get in touch with any potential family members or friends of those pictured ahead of an open day at the care home on June 28.

The team at the care home hope to recreate the photo as near as possible in one of many activities planned for the open day.

Joe Patterson, home manager at Milner House, said that the photograph was much loved by staff and residents at the house but hoped to add to its popularity with more information about the people it depicts.

"Everyone loves the original photo, which has been hanging in the home for decades, but when someone suggested recreating it, we got very excited — the home has such amazing history, and the idea of adding to that today with a new photo was just such a great idea," Mr Patterson said.

The care home manager added that Milner House enjoyed a close relationship with the surrounding community and said he hoped this would stand them in good stead in solving the mystery of who was pictured in the photograph and what their stories were.

"We have very little information about the picture, other than the photographer’s name, but with the home’s unique history, and our close relationship with the local community, we thought it was important to reach out and ask if anybody recognised anyone in the picture – or to see if they perhaps recognised themselves!

"We hope the people of Leatherhead will come forward and join us for Care Home Open Day to try and recreate the photo as closely as possible – then who knows, maybe it will start a new tradition," he said.
