More Council land will be sold to in-house developer Brick by Brick, as it announces plans to build more than 500 additional homes.

The cabinet has agreed to sell 60 sites across the borough for development into 502 properties, 50% of which are designated as affordable.

Ranging from infill sites to land next to council tower blocks, most developments will be suitable for fewer than 10 homes.

New Addington South will provide 16 sites which will be home to 103 new housing units, the biggest contribution of any area in the borough.

Another ten sites will be in New Addington North, which will make space for 50 properties.

Three larger scale developments, housing 80 units between them will take place in Waddon. 

Councillor Alison Butler, Croydon Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for homes and Gateway services, said: “Croydon has a housing crisis, homes of every tenure are required.

"Brick by Brick is already delivering hundreds of new and affordable homes right across the borough, and this decision now means they can provide hundreds more.

Councillor Simon Hall, Croydon Council’s cabinet member for finance and resources, said: “As well as delivering much-needed full-price and affordable homes for Croydon people, the way we set up Brick by Brick means any profits are reinvested in council services and to build more homes.”

All developments will be subject to Brick by Brick carrying out public consultation and schemes gaining planning permission.

The first Brick by Brick homes nearing completion in Upper Norwood are on sale at the moment.

Work is also being finalised on Brick by Brick’s first 100% affordable development in Thornton Heath on the site of a former derelict care home.

Flora Court will provide 27 new homes with the affordable rented going to people on the council's housing waiting list.
