A struggling Bexleyheath doctor's surgery has been slammed by inspectors claiming that patients' safety is compromised.

Standards have slowly slipped at Crook Log Surgery after being awarded a "Good" rating in June 2016 before a newly released report branded the facility as "Inadequate", leading it into special measures.

The highly critical CQC report raised serious concerns about the deteriorating quality of services being provided at the surgery, stating: "The practice did not have clear systems, practices and processes to keep people safe and safeguarded from abuse.

Inspectors noted that clinic curtains, which are meant to be washed every six months, had in fact not been cleaned since December 2017.

Concerns were also voiced after it was discovered the practise did not stock life-saving medication for those suffering with acute severe asthma or an allergic reaction.

Staff were found to have no knowledge of safeguarding training and no records could be found to show that staff members were properly immunised against infectious diseases.

Although the practice was praised for providing an adequate level of emotional support to their patients, inspectors were less than impressed with their leadership abilities and slammed senior staff for their "Inadequate" management skills.

Speaking on the report, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford Sir David Evennett expressed deep concern over the findings, saying: "I am bitterly disappointed to learn of the CQC inspection and that leadership, responsiveness and safeguarding are not at the standards patients expect and deserve.

"Constituents have raised concerns with me about this practice, which I have taken up on their behalf.

"I welcome the support being given to improve and understand a further inspection will take place in the next six months."

A spokeswoman for Crook Log Surgery has since said: "We take on board the comments by the CQC.

"Our patients are our number one priority and we are already working with NHS Bexley CCG to make improvements in order to bring our services up to the required standard."
