A pensioner has died after being hit by a car in Battersea Park yesterday afternoon.

Police were called at 1.39pm to a crash involving a grey Peugeot 307 and a pedestrian at the junction of McDermott Close and Ingrave Street.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 80s, was taken to a south London hospital suffering serious injuries but died in the early hours of this morning.

His next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 40s, stopped at the scene and was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. She has since been released under investigation.
