Plans submitted to increase approved flats development in Raynes Park

In October last year, Merton Council granted planning permission for the demolition of the Manuplastics site in 579-589 Kingston Road, and the redevelopment of 99 homes.

Now the owners of the site, Access Self-Storage, want to add 17 more homes on top of that.

"With the 99 residential units planning permission in place, the client’s brief has been to look for opportunities to increase the number of residential units, enhance the resident’s experience in the courtyard and respond to the permitted Dundonald Church scheme," the application read.

"As with the consented scheme, the regeneration of the site will provide community benefits including new jobs, new landscaped internal courtyard and the provision of new homes."

The church scheme that the application mentions involves the development of a part five, part three storey church with homes attached as well.

Because of this, the design team for the Manuplastics site "felt there was an opportunity to revisit the scheme."

"In previous discussions with (Merton Council), concerns were raised over the privacy of the ground floor residential accommodation (terraced houses)," the application read.

"It was felt that these would potentially be overlooked from the courtyard space.

"It is felt that in principle there is an opportunity to include a building along the eastern boundary of the site."
