The Rose & Crown, located on the High Street, was taken over by publican Robert Latta, 60, who wants the pub to become a family-friendly favourite for locals who may have frequented the place in the years before.

"I wanted to make it a family pub. We want to try and encourage families to come along, to bring back the community spirit to the place.

"When I got it, it was in pretty bad shape. The toilets were neglected; the water was turned off; the decor was bad; the seats were falling apart, sure everything was falling apart.

"From the refurb it’s totally changed. It's now child friendly and even dog friendly, " he said.

The pub is also looking to provide hot food to customers once the kitchen has been finished, which is expected to be in the coming weeks.
