An East Wickham woman has described her shock after discovering that callous thugs had smashed the windows of her car, along with numerous others in her neighbourhood.

Sophie Gass, 21, was woken up by her neighbour early yesterday morning, who raised the alarm about the extreme act of vandalism, which also saw her sister's car and her dad's driving instructor car, covered in shattered glass.

Speaking to News Shopper, Miss Gass said it wasn't long before they realised that other car owners were targeted in the shocking overnight smashing spree.

However, it's her father who has been harshly affected by the senseless act as it's now forced him out of work until his car windscreen is replaced.

"My dad is a self employed driving instructor with a really good reputation locally, and he’s now unable to work for two days until he’s able to get his windscreen fixed.

"He has to refund people the money for the lessons and tests because he’s unable to do any driving with his cars like this," she said.

CCTV footage recorded from a neighbour's house shows two moped riders, each with a passenger on the back, riding through Miss Gass' street shortly after 2am on Tuesday, May 28, who she believes could be the prime suspects.

However, Ms Gass has said that even though a number of reports have been made to police regarding the incident, officers have yet to approach victims for statements or review the CCTV footage.

"Personally we think it is appalling that the police have not come out to speak to any victims, or ask for the CCTV footage from anyone," she said.

"This means that with no punishment or even investigation, these kids will continue to damage people’s property that we have worked hard for."

She also said that her family are still on edge since the incident and are afraid the troublemakers may return to cause more havoc.

"Since then we’ve been really worried that it may happen again, or may even be our house next time.

"Clearly these cowards aren’t scared of the police anymore and there’s no punishment or consequences for anyone who thinks they can damage peoples cars.

"A lot of people will say it’s only a windscreen, it’s replaceable and no one got hurt, but it then effects your work life, how secure you feel in your home and the faith you have in the police," said Ms Gass.

A spokeswoman for the Met has said: "Police were called at 6:20am on Tuesday, May 28, to reports of criminal damage in Eastview Avenue, SE18.

"The victim reported that three cars on their drive were damaged at about 20:10hrs on Monday, May 27.

"No arrests have been made."
