HOUSE prices in areas around Heathrow have fallen 2.6% since Parliament voted to expand Heathrow, says GetAgent, an estate agent comparison site.

It found that, since the vote last June, house prices in Windsor & Maidenhead have fallen by 6%, 4.4% in Wandsworth and 1.5% in Hillingdon.

The primary reason could be attributed areas that would endure a significant increase in noise from an additional 260,000 planes per year.

Jackie Clark-Basten, chair of campaign group Stop Heathrow Expansion, said: “This comes as no surprise to us.

“The only way to end it is to scrap the project completely and stop more people’s lives being impacted by airport noise, pollution and more traffic.”

Parmjit Dhanda, executive director of rival group Back Heathrow, said: "House prices rises are cooling across the UK, but in particular across London, where uncertainty over Brexit has added to the slowdown.

“Many housing experts have welcomed a reduction in prices due to the challenges young people are facing to get on the housing ladder.

“We support expansion, but with measures in place that will reduce noise and tackle pollution. We also want to see a fair property offer for residents who lose their homes, with a compensation package of 125% of the property’s value.”

The news comes as Heathrow plans to launch a consultation next month on proposed locations for new buildings, including a detention centre, fuel storage depots, flood storage, car parks, new hotels and diversion of waterways.

These sites will not just be in the new airport boundary but in locations like Uxbridge, West Drayton, Windsor, Bedfont, Stanwell, Cranford and Hayes.
