Former dress maker and long time south-east Londoner, Elsie Pegram, is celebrating a major milestone as she prepares to turn 106-years-old later this week.
The centenarian, born on May 19, 1913, will be celebrating with family, friends and staff at Bupa The Sidcup nursing home looking to share the magnificent occasion with her.
Born in Eltham, Elsie grew up in south-east London where she holds many precious memories throughout her life, with the most memorable moments surrounding her family and her childhood.
Reflecting on her life, Elsie said: "I have so many memories - I’ve lived through two World Wars and several royal weddings and events.
"My favourite ones are with my family and in my school years, although I have always loved the little things such as bubble baths etc – I still do now.
"I also love reading and always have done. I used to spend so much time socialising with family and friends too, who still visit me regularly at my home and take me out for lunches.
When asked for her advice on living a long, happy life, the local lady said: "Just enjoy yourself as much as possible and try to find some humour in your everyday life. Joy and laughter are what keeps you young."
