The mother of murdered teenager Jimmy Mizen has shared her hope for a "better tomorrow" on the 11th anniversary of his death.

Margaret Mizen posted an emotional tribute to her son on the For Jimmy Facebook page in which she remembered "the fine young man he was and would have been today."

She said: "We must have hope for a better tomorrow, where our children can go out and come home again, where our streets and communities will be safer, that this will be a better safer world."

The mum-of-nine also thanked the charity's supporters for their "continued love" in the years since Jimmy's death.

This Is Local London:

Jimmy was just 16 when he was killed

Jimmy died aged just 16 in May 2008 when he was attacked with a glass dish in the Three Cooks Bakery just around the corner from his home in Lee.

After his death, the family set up the For Jimmy charity to make children safer on the streets and steer them away from violent crime.

As part of their charity work, Mrs Mizen, her husband Barry and their children tour schools around the country to tell the story of how Jimmy died.

They also hold a Walking for Jimmy event every year in which people sign up to walk across 21 bridges across the River Thames in London, to raise money for For Jimmy.

Remembering her son on the anniversary he was killed, Mrs Mizen described the night before the attack when he went to a party to celebrate his 16th birthday.

"Before he left, myself and Barry cuddled him and we told him how much we loved him and how proud we were of him and he told us he loved us, such a beautiful memory," she said.

As she thanked the charity's supporters for their help over the years, Mrs Mizen said: "Be assured we will never give up and we will do our best to keep Jimmy's legacy alive and work for all our beautiful young people.

"We are humbled by your generosity love and prayers."
