Police are appealing for information after a teenager was stabbed by moped riding suspects in Croydon.

Shortly before midnight on Thursday April 18 officers responded to reports of a stabbing on Woodside Road.

They found a boy, aged 16, suffering a stab injury. He was rushed to hospital and treated for his injuries, which have since been confirmed not to be life-threatening.

Investigating officers determined the victim was assaulted in nearby Spring Lane as he was travelling home from a friend's house by bicycle.

At this stage it is believed that four suspects travelling on two mopeds followed the victim before two passengers dismounted and carried out the attack.

No arrests have been made and detectives are keen to hear from anyone with information.

Detective Sergeant Danielle Power said: “This was a brutal attack and one which could have had far more serious consequences.

“While we have spoken to a number of witnesses in relation to this incident, we believe more people may have seen the mopeds in the Woodside Road area at the time and we urge them to come forward and speak to us.”

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has information is asked to contact police 101, quoting reference CAD 9220/18APR.
