Children took to the woods in their high visibility vests,  armed with wellies and head torches thanks to the generous staff at an opticians.

The group of 12 youngsters, aged 6-8, from the Beavers in Friern Barnet, were accompanied by three volunteers on the hunt last Tuesday, April 2, however, the walk almost did not go ahead, as the team were short on a few safety vests.

After volunteer Priscilla Gavioli put a request for equipment over social media, Specsavers in Barnet helped them out by donating high-vis jackets.

Ms Gavioli said: "Given we’re all volunteers we are quite reliant on donations, especially at this early stage, to keep doing weekly activities and extra trips like camping etc., so it’s always a great help when local business are able to help out.

"I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you for donating the high visibility yellow vests to the 2nd Friern Barnet Beavers.

"The vests meant we could go ahead with our Nature Scavenger Hunt and Easter Egg Hunt, which was a great success in the end.

"The kids learnt valuable skills for life such as teamwork and listening"

The 2nd Friern Barnet Beaver Scouts meet every Tuesday at All Saint’s Church Hall on Oakleigh Road North, Whetstone N20.
