A 23-year-old Bromley man has said playing at Drake's afterparty was one of the highlights of his career.

Sam Slattery, a former Ravesnbourne student, also grabbed headlines last year after finding love on Take Me Out.

Despite performing across Europe including at Buckingham Palace ten years ago, Sam, who has since made his name as a club drummer, said the Mayfair afterparty was unforgettable.

The Canadian rapper is headlining the final of seven straight gigs at the 02 London tonight.

"It was absolutely jammed," Sam told News Shopper about the star-studded party. "It was a bit surreal. Everyone was screaming, and it was full of celebrities.

"Usain Bolt jumped up on the mike at one point."

Sam, who also produces music, was the only drummer at the London themed party on Tuesday night and said his agent called him the day before to see if he was free.

He described Drake as one of the biggest artists in the world and said it would be a dream to be his full-time drummer.

Sam, who used to live in Homesdale Road, added: "I’m not one who gets starstruck because I’ve worked with big artists, but I thought 'wow I’ve just played with Drake'."

He didn’t get to meet Drake but said he was so close he could "smell his aftershave".

Sam wants to be known as the "Travis Barker" of the UK and said not many people make it as professional drummers.

He has been practicing drums since he was a child and is a former member of an Indie band.

His other career highlight was performing in Ibiza and his whirlwind career has also seem him link up with Susan Boyle.

Sam said he hasn’t had time to reflect on his achievements, and said he was looking forward to what comes next, with some big contracts soon to be announced.

"When I’m in it I’m just thinking about the next thing," he said. "I bet Drake is even thinking about what he’s doing next rather than that he has just sold out all these shows at the 02."
