A primary school’s girl football team was placed runners-up in in a county tournament today.

Year 6 pupils at Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School, in Lower Queen’s Road, lost 2-0 to St Mary’s School at Eversley Leisure Centre, Basildon.

The Chelsea Football Essex Cup tournament kicked off at 9.30am, where youngsters played six games in total, winning, losing and drawing twice respectively.

Head of PE and organiser of Sport Savvy, Anthony Savvides, said: “They haven’t been playing together for long but still pleased but probably should have one, just unlucky.

“I think the girls are in the same emotional state as I am, they knew they could have one if things went a little differently but overall everyone is quite pleased.”

The Chelsea Football Essex Cup tournament was organised by Chelsea FC where the final is set to take place at the Stamford Bridge stadium.

The team was presented with medals for their hard efforts before heading back to school.
