A Twickenham teacher recently celebrated 25 years of delivering language lessons across the borough.

Joy Jermy set up French and Spanish lessons for children back in the 1990s, after living and teaching abroad and seeing how children in other countries were learning and using English.

She started her own small business, Joy for Languages, by teaching her own young children in her living room.

When they went to school she then expanded into their Teddington school where her La Jolie Ronde lessons are still being taught today.

Over the years, many schools and nurseries in the borough have taken on Joy's French and Spanish lessons and she and her colleagues regularly teach over 450 children a week.

La Jolie Ronde general manager Steve Baker said: “Joy is the consummate professional in everything she says and does and is a true ambassador for La Jolie Ronde in every sense of the word. "I feel very privileged to have worked alongside Joy.

"I am also extremely proud to know that so many thousands of children have personally benefited from Joy’s classes over the years using the La Jolie Ronde method.

"Joy is an absolute pleasure to work with. She wears her passion for languages on her sleeve."
