Police are investigating a house fire in Thornton Heath that left a teenage boy in a critical condition.

Police were called by the fire brigade at around 5.40pm yesterday to a home on Camden Gardens.

Emergency services rushed a 13-year-old boy suffering from smoke inhalation to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s also suffered smoke inhalation and laceration injuries, sustained as they tried to rescue the injured boy.

They were taken to hospital, but have since been discharged.

Another man, in his 50s, also sustained a minor laceration injury and was treated at the scene. Two children were also taken to hospital as a precaution.

Three male firefighters were also taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. They have since been discharged from hospital.

The cause of the fire has not been established and an investigation is underway.

At this early stage, there is no evidence to suggest that the incident is suspicious and so far there have been no arrests.
