Armed police stopped a man on a motorway – moments after a driver was threatened at gunpoint.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle on the M25, which had blue lights fitted, attempting to pull over a car on the motorway near j22, London Colney, on the afternoon of March 15.

It’s alleged a man dressed in military uniform threatened a male driver whilst brandishing a firearm.

It was nearly 2.30pm when police received an emergency call and armed officers raced to the clockwise carriageway.

A search was carried out of the area and a blue car was stopped on the M25 travelling between j23 and j24.

Police slowed the traffic by putting a roadblock in place which allowed armed officers to swoop in on the target vehicle.

A witness suggested on Twitter that two members of the public ran to the target car and grabbed the firearms just before police arrived.

Two replica Glock SLP’s were seized from the vehicle.

No one was injured.

The closure was lifted at around 3.15pm.
