A social enterprise has been shortlisted for an award for a sustainability workshop aimed at school children.

Barnet based social enterprise Bread n Butter CIC has been shortlisted for an Urban Food Award run by the Mayor of London and the London Food Link.

Set up in September 2018 it has been nominated for the ‘Super Social Enterprise’ and it will discover whether it has won on Wednesday March 20.

In January 2019 Bread n Butter launched ‘Waste Warriors’, an innovative sustainability workshop aimed at primary school children.

The 5-week programme funded by North London Waste Authority (NLWA) under the Community Fund project, has been teaching key stage 2 children in Barnet and Enfield schools about recycling, food waste and living more sustainably.

Since the start of this year, the Community Interest Company have also been running a cooking club at a youth club in Grahame Park Estate in Colindale, teaching teenagers basic cooking skills.

Natasha Walter, Founder and Director of Bread n Butter said: “We are really excited about being nominated for this award.

“We only set up Bread n Butter in September and went straight in with our first funded project Waste Warriors proved a great success.

“We had such a positive response from teachers, parents and children to these workshops. “We hope that through the workshops that we deliver on food waste and healthy eating our community will feel empowered to find new solutions and take matters in their own hands and make a change for the future generations.”
