Harrow Council defended complaints of ‘thin ice’ at last year’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ park, saying it was both well-received and a commercial success.
Cllr Marilyn Ashton, deputy leader of Harrow Conservatives, quizzed council leader Cllr Graham Henson over the project, which was held in Lowlands Road last December, at a cabinet meeting last week.
Run by the council’s commercial services team, the week-long festival included a synthetic ice rink, food and craft stalls and funfair rides.
But Cllr Ashton suggested that it could have been better-managed and that the feedback she received about the park was less than glowing.
“Instead of skating on thin ice, I ask that you give people an actual ice rink – this one was plastic,” she said.
She also requested that the council provide a detailed breakdown of the financials associated with the ‘Winter Wonderland’ programme.
Cllr Henson confirmed that it brought in more than £3,000 and dismissed any criticism of the project.
He said: “The feedback was positive – it was well-received by the public despite the poor weather.”
He added that he was “excited” about bringing more things to Harrow, which it hasn’t experienced in the past.
