Plans to bulldoze a house in Bexleyheath and build a new block of flats are set to be approved by councillors.

Bencewell Properties plans nine apartments in Broomfield Road spread over two storeys, the majority of which would be two-bedroom.

The plans are subject to sign-off from Bexley councillors at a meeting on Thursday night, February 28.

Planning officers at the council have earmarked the plans to be approved.

In a new report, officers tell councillors: “The proposed development will provide new residential development that does not harm the character and appearance of the area, provides satisfactory living conditions, amenity space and parking and does not result in any harm in terms of residential amenity or highway safety.”

The scheme is being recommended to be passed despite concerns from neighbours that the development would be overbearing.

Residents have objected to the plans, claiming there would be noise and disturbance, and disruption at the junction at Broomfield Road and Gravel Hill due to extra traffic.

In a planning statement, the developer said: “The objective of the proposal is to make more efficient use of the land whilst preserving the character of the area, retaining the residential use on the site and create additional dwellings whilst ensuring they don’t have a detrimental effect on their immediate neighbours.”

Bexley Council has an ambitious growth strategy, which outlines 31,500 homes and 17,000 jobs in the borough up to 2050.

The plans will be debated at a meeting on Thursday, along with schemes for Belvedere police station and the Co-Op in Station Road, Sidcup.
