A Bromley charity which has rescued hundreds of cats has been awarded a special grant by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

Romney House Cat Rescue will use the funds to revamp some of its cat houses.

Founder of the Downe-based charity, Silvana Locke, added: "They are also going to help with the huge number of cats that come our way by taking the overflow to their centre for rehoming.

"This is great news and we look forward to working with them."

Rescued cats are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before a suitable home is found. If some cats are unsuitable to be rehomed they live freely in the rescue centre’s sanctuary.

Grant manager at Battersea, Margaret Hulme, said: "We hope that this grant will help make a real difference to the lives of cats and dogs in the community.

"We want to support rescues and shelters in the UK, not only by awarding funding, but also by sharing the experiences and knowledge we have gained as an animal welfare charity that has been rescuing and rehoming animals for 158 years."

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home offers grants of between £3,000 and £15,000 to smaller rescues and shelters.
