A developer unveiled its plans for a retirement village as part of the major redevelopment near Watford General Hospital.

Mayfield Watford, part of Audley Group, revealed its vision for the 255-home village as part of Riverwell – a regeneration of West Watford.

The development will be home to 255 properties, centred around the Mayfield Club, and will include a bar, bistro, swimming pool, village hall, fitness rooms, and spa.

A selection of one and two-bedroom apartments will also be on sale. One-bedroom properties will start at £295,000.

The village will form part of Watford Riverwell – which will bring around 1,000 homes, a primary school, community centre, open spaces, and retail opportunities.

It is being done in a number of phases with the latest phase - a new multi-storey car park - being given the go ahead on part of the Farm Terrace Allotments.

Watford Observer:

Some phases such as a new access road to Watford General Hospital and trade site – Screwfix – have already been completed.

The regeneration supposedly provides opportunity for the hospital to redevelop and expand its facilities.

Speaking at a launch event at Watford football club earlier this month, Nick Sanderson, CEO of Mayfield Villages, said: “We have a different vision for the way older people should live and Mayfield Watford is the first step into this new era of retirement living.

Watford Observer:

“The village will be fresh, modern, and contemporary with a close sense of neighbourliness, but crucially with access to flexible care as and when people need it. Our unveiling has given us a fantastic opportunity to share our plans for the village with those in the local community.

“We look forward to welcoming our first owners in autumn 2020.”
