An investigation has been launched after a teenage girl was hit by a marked police car on its way to an incident in Banstead.

Officers were driving along Brighton Road northbound at around 7pm in Earlswood, near Redhill, on January 18.

It was when the vehicle approached a traffic-operated pedestrian crossing near to St John’s Road that it was driven onto the wrong side of the road and hit the 18-year-old.

The police car was stopped and she was later treated by a member of the public, an off-duty nurse as well as paramedics who arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.

Emergency services say she suffered a broken foot, as well as cuts and bruises.

Following a referral and the launch of an investigation, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman says they are already talking with people who witnessed the incident but want anyone who was present to contact them and assist with their inquiries.
