Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses after a violent disturbance at a Walton-on-Thames Sainsbury's last night (February 18).

In a statement posted online, Surrey Police said that they had responded to calls of a disturbance around 10pm last night after a 'gang of youths' had entered the shop and attacked a man standing outside of it.

Surrey Police said: "We were called shortly before 10pm last night following reports that a gang of youths had entered the shop, one of whom was reported to be carrying a knife.

"The group are alleged to have attacked a man outside of the shop and thrown bottles at him.

"Four males, aged between 17 and 19, were arrested. One was detained in the entrance to the shop while three others were arrested after a brief foot chase."

Surrey Police added that one of the attending officers had been assaulted by an 18-year old suspect at the scene who was arrested for assault on police.

A CCTV image (pictured) released by Surrey Police featured the face of a male, described as "white, large build, brown hair" and "between 16-18 years of age" they were eager to speak to regarding the event.

Commenting on the disturbance, Sergeant James Edwards said: "Thanks to the quick work of officers, we were able to detain four suspects in relation to this incident.

"We are keen for witnesses to come forward and tell us what you saw and to help us build a better picture of what happened.

"It is believed the suspects were in the area of the shop prior to this incident.

"We are also keen to speak to anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image as we believe he may be able to help us with our enquiries."
