Plans to knock down two bungalows to build a block of flats next to Mitcham Common have been turned down by the council.
The applicant wanted to build a three storey block of five flats at 399 A and B Commonside East.
The proposal included a timber clad building containing one, two and three bedroom flats.
But on Tuesday (January 29) Merton Council refused the application.
A statement from the planning department said: “The proposed development, by reason of its design, appearance, siting, bulk and massing would constitute incongruous development that would be wholly out of keeping with the prevalent form of development in the immediate area which is characterised by two storey dwellings.”
The plans received objections from nearby houses which said the building would block sunlight into their properties.
And there was a representation from the Mitcham Common Conservators which asked the applicant to pay for extra measures to stop people at the flats from parking on the common.
