We have all dreamt of getting behind the wheel of our first ever car, but could you have imagined being afforded such freedom when you were 15?

Charlie Madden, who only celebrated his 15th birthday in November, was handed the keys to his first motor last month after shooting his way to glory.

The thrilled teenager claimed the glittering new MG3 by winning the grand final of the TSC Series for clay-shooting.

Charlie, who is from Orpington but recently moved to Swanley, is still two years away from being able to drive.

"His reaction was 'I have this car but can’t drive'," his proud granddad laughed to News Shopper.

David Madden, 81, of Waldenhurst Road, Orpington, added: "His mum took him round the car park in it. He couldn’t celebrate with a drink, so we took him for a meal."

The grandad joked his grandson was unable to drink or drive, but he said he was brought to tears when Charlie won the games outright.

The Oxford Gun Company has been running competitions from March until November, and Charlie had to keep performing at a high level to reach the final.

He rose to the occasion on December 9 in Oxford when he scored 24 out of 25 shots in the final round to win the grand prize.

David said Charlie’s mum is now using the car, after selling her own.

Charlie has ambitions to use his clay-shooting talent long-term, but his grandad fears the high cost of competitions may be the only setback.

"Me and his nan support him as much as we can," he said.

He quipped that Charlie was now a celebrity in his own way, after being interviewed by the BBC and making the front cover of Clay Shooting magazine.

Despite the fame, Charlie was described as a "quiet young man" who reacted to winning by giving his dad Gary a hug.

His grandad added: "He is not the type to say 'oh I will win this car', but he will give it a bloody good go."

After the event, Charlie was quoted as saying he didn’t want come away empty-handed after coming all the way from Kent for the big competition.
