MPs have given statements on how they voted last night in Parliament.

Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers said: "I voted against the draft Withdrawal Agreement last night because it had unacceptable flaws and was not in the national interest.

“It would have retained a significant continuing role for the European Court of Justice, meaning we would not be restoring democratic control over making our laws.

“The so-called backstop would leave us locked into obeying many EU laws without any say over them.

“Now it has been decisively defeated, the Government should seek better terms from the EU.

“The draft agreement will need major changes before it stands any chance of getting a majority in Parliament."

Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer said: “I continue to support the Prime Minister and the Government in the need to negate a good deal as we leave the EU.

“My position on that has not changed. Given that the House of Commons rejected the deal negotiated then the PM is right to continue to engage with Conservative colleagues, the DUP and senior Parliamentarians.

“She is right to seek to identify what would be required to secure the backing of the House.

“This continues the political engagement she has undertaken since negotiations with the EU began.

“The PM has my support in continuing to seek a majority view, and if these meetings yield ideas that are genuinely negotiable and have sufficient support in the Commons then the Government will explore them with the EU. That is a sensible approach.”
