A Carshalton teenager has secured a second motorsport championship in as many years of being a racing driver.

Kieran Ives, 15, who was crowned the Daytona Sandown Park Inkart Championship winner in Esher last December, has captured another trophy.

The youngster, who idolises former Formula 1 driver Jenson Button, was crowned the latest winner of the Buckmore Park Junior Championship in Kent.

It follows after he competed in the tournament’s nine rounds over eight months, adding to his 2017 Star Pupil award at the Home of British Karting.

Kieran is now a sponsored semi-pro who has only been racing since last year but has clear ambitions to become a professional.

His dad David Ives said: “We are very proud of Kieran and his achievements, he not only won the championship but is also the lap record holder for both Buckmore circuits - national and international

“This followed a rather bad crash he had in his Subaru-powered Tony Kart [tournament] last year, and so to come back stronger and win the championship shows his determination to succeed.

“Kieran has also been accepted at Brooklands College in Weybridge to study motorsport engineering next year so is studying hard to get the GCSEs he needs at Greenshaw High School.”

“The school has been very supportive of Kieran's racing, allowing him time off to attend races and reporting on his success.

Kieran not only looks up to Button but also Formula 2 driver Lando Norris and teenager Billy Monger, who are both 19.

Despite his two older brothers, David Jr, 28, and Ben, 24, are football fans of Aston Villa and Liverpool respectively, the teenager remains an ardent motorsport fan.
