A man who brandished a knife before demanding cash at a children’s clothes store in Brockley is being hunted by police.

The suspect entered Gently Elephant on Brockley Road on Saturday (December 29) at 12.35pm where he started speaking to staff.

A Met spokesman said: "When a member of the public had left the store, he produced a knife and demanded money and a laptop.

"He then left the store with the property."

Nobody was reported injured and police say the middle-aged man is described as black, in his 40s, about 5ft 9ins and has short greying hair.

He also had a strong Yorkshire accent and was wearing a chequered shirt, jeans and carried a small bag.

It is understood the store closed after the incident, and News Shopper has been unable to contact the manager for comment.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting the reference 2899/29DEC.
