MP for Erith and Thamesmead, Teresa Pearce, has welcomed an investment of £1.6 million into Erith from the Mayor of London's Good Growth Fund.

The investment comes following a successful bid by the council during the second round of funding. So far, approximately £30 million has been allocated to projects from this fund.

According to a council spokeswoman, the funding will be used to make "further improvements to the town", with the intention of renovating currently vacant buildings and "rejuvenating" existing open spaces.

The Good Growth Fund is open to public, private and third-sector organisations in London who want to drive regeneration in their local area.

Teresa Pearce MP has said: "This money is very welcome. It’s encouraging to see investment in the north of the borough in an area key to Bexley’s Growth Strategy.

"I am looking forward to seeing how Bexley consult on their plans for Erith with local people."

Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Growth, Clle Louie French, echoed this and made note of future opportunities made present by this funding.

"“I am pleased that the Mayor has recognised the potential that Erith has and awarded us Good Growth funds.

"We want to make the town the prosperous and forward-looking place it used to be, and we are excited about the cultural, employment and housing opportunities it could offer," he said.

Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, Jules Pipe, also welcomed the good news and said that herself, and The Mayor, are "committed to supporting ‘good growth’ by building a city where all Londoners have access to the same opportunities."
