Two men have been jailed for killing a defenceless man in a "savage" attack in a Greenwich street.

Jozef Boci, 30, was attacked following an incident at the South Pole nightclub on February 16.

Ibrahim James, 21, from Woolwich, was jailed for 22 years and Andrew Adekoya, 22, from Greenwich, was jailed for 16 years at the Old Bailey.

Both were found guilty of manslaughter.

The court heard how Mr Boci, from Catford, was targeted after his group had a minor dispute inside the nightclub with another group including James and Adekoya.

Security staff at the club intervened, and while Mr Boci's group were allowed to remain in the club the other was told to leave.

After leaving, Adekoya returned with what looked like a metal object, perhaps a wrench, while James appeared to have a weapon concealed down his trouser leg.

The group approached the front of the club but were ushered away by door staff, yet continued to hang around nearby for the next hour or so.

At 2.10am, Mr Boci left the club and as soon as he stepped outside he was chased by the group, including James and Adekoya.

Mr Boci fled down Greenwich High Road but tripped over and was attacked.

Witnesses described how he was hit with a baseball bat as he lay on the pavement.

Mr Boci was taken to hospital but never regained consciousness and died six days later on February 23.

Suspects were quickly identified from CCTV and forensic analysis.

James was arrested on February 23 and a baseball bat was found hidden in his garden.

Although no forensic link could be made to the bat used in the attack on Mr Boci, it was similar to remnants found at the scene of the attack.

On February 25, Adekoya was arrested and admitted being at the scene and in possession of a wrench but claimed he was trying to calm the situation.

Five men were subsequently charged for their involvement in Mr Boci's killing, two of whom were convicted.

Detective Chief Inspector John Massey, who led the investigation, said: "The length of these sentences illustrate the savage nature of this attack.

"Jozef Boci was pursued and subjected to a brutal assault as he lay defenceless in a Greenwich street."
