Cheam just got a little bit brighter this festive season as comedian Tim Vine switched on its Christmas lights at an annual festival.
The Not Going Out star, best known for his one-liners, was a special guest at this year’s Cheam Village Christmas Fair on December 7.
Visitors were treated to craft stalls, a range of activities for families, a visit from Santa Claus, as well as a variety of beverages on the night.
That was all before the Cheam-born funny man arrived on stage to deliver a “hilarious” speech and switched on the lights with a young visitor from the audience.
Mr Vine has twice won the award for best joke at the annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival – in 2010 and 2014.
The winning one-liner last time out was: “I decided to sell my hoover. Well, it was just collecting dust.”
Back in 2010, the joke hailed the best was: “I’ve just been on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. I’ll tell you what, never again.”
He would also be named a runner-up to the same honour three years in a row, from 2011 to 2013.
The Cheam Village Christmas Fair, held on December 7, ran from 5pm to 9pm.
