The acting chief executive of Greenwich Council is set to be rubber stamped into the top job permanently.

Debbie Warren, the council’s head of finance, is poised to be formally accepted as the civic chief at next week’s full council meeting.

The role, which is the most senior officer at the council, will be paid anywhere between £194,580 and £202,900, according to council papers published in September.

Warren has been “acting up” into the post since the retirement of the previous chief executive in August last year.

The council will formally agree to give her the job permanently following a “rigorous selection process” earlier this year.

According to the job description, the purpose of the role is: “To provide strong strategic leadership to support delivery of the Council’s agenda.

“To effectively manage the Council’s staff and resources to achieve the highest possible performance to deliver the Council’s objectives for the local community and stakeholders.”

Councillors will be asked to give her the go-ahead at a meeting on Wednesday night, December 12.

A report explains: “Following a rigorous selection process, final interviews were undertaken by the Appointment Panel on 27 November.

“The Appointments Panel recommended the appointment of Debbie Warren as the Council’s Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service.”

Chief executives work alongside the council’s leader – in this case Cllr Dan Thorpe – to set the course for the council in terms of services and operations.

The role is not elected by the public.
