There is always a main subject in an image but it’s where you place them in the frame that makes the picture work.

It is so tempting for most to put the person or animal in the centre and then get them to look back at the photographer.

But you’re trying to tell a story, so by shifting them around and working with a different eyeline, you can give the viewer a bigger hint as to what’s going on beyond the image.
