Free grit is being handed out in selected spots across Sutton ahead of icy and freezing conditions this winter.

The council is offering both residents and businesses the ability to collect 10kg of free grit per household or business.

You can also get some for your elderly friends and neighbours, or even people who don’t have cars.

In addition to the collection points, the council will be sending out 50 10kg bags to The Mount for collection.

Meanwhile deliveries will be arranged for residents who are on assisted waste collections and, if you already do but are interested in free grit, you need to get in touch with the council’s contact centre.

Grit at Kimpton Park Reuse and Recycling Centre, near to Minden Road, as well as Woodcote Green Garden Centre near Woodmansterne Lane will be ready bagged.

Woodcote Green Garden Centre is open until 7pm on that Saturday but will only be giving out grit until 5.30pm.

Here’s where you can get free grit and when:

- Woodcote Green Garden Centre: November 24, 9am – 5.30pm

- Woodmansterne Lane, Wallington (SM6 0SU): November 25, 10am – 4pm

- Kimpton Park Reuse and Recycling Centre: November 24, 9am – 5pm
