Children at a Carshalton cubs group were surprised with a very special visit at their pack headquarters last week.

Warwick Davis visited the 3rd Carshalton Cub Pack on November 7 to help the cubs prepare for their Disability Awareness Badge.

One parent described the day as “a really amazing learning opportunity”.

The parent added their child was “so full of excitement telling us all about Warwick Davis and his life, fame and adventures.”

When he first walked into the hall some of the Cubs just stood there with their mouths open in amazement. The rest, however, only realised who he was when Star Wars and Harry Potter were mentioned.

During his visit, Warwick talked about his dwarfism and how the condition has affected his daily life.

He explained to the children how he had to make adaptions to his car and house, and how lucky he considered himself in his career, something that may not have happened if he did not have the condition.

The actor then told the cubs stories of when he used to be the Sixer of Red Six at their age, and once smuggled biscuits into his backpack while on an adventure with Bear Grylls, a fact that the children quite enjoyed.

Warwick was then presented with the cubs’ scarf and a red woggle and made an honorary member of the Pack.

As a part of the kick off the Disability Awareness Badge, the children participated in a blindfold game and a communication activity, where they had to talk to each other and experience the feeling of not having one of their senses.

At the end of the discussion Davis presented three of the cubs with the highest award a cub can gain – their Chief Scout Silver Award.
