Last Sunday marked 100 years since the end of the First World War and the people of south-east London and north Kent came out in their droves to honour and commemorate those who gave their lives in service.

Decorative displays and memorials could been seen at schools, churches and homes across the boroughs with adults and children alike coming together, wearing their poppies with pride.

Pupils of St Paul's Primary School in Slade Green made a beautiful display to mark the occasion before they shared poems during a special assembly.

Hall Place in Bexley encouraged locals to check out its 'There but not there' exhibition which showcased a decorative bench which has its design inspired by the classic silhouettes of WW1 soldiers.

Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council thanked everyone for attending its commemorative event at Swanscombe Park where Councillor Lesley Howes was in attendance, laying wreathes on a memorial as trumpet players gave a touching performance to passers-by.

Alexander McLeod Primary School in Abbey Wood opened its doors as it held an exhibition to show off students' hard work and dedication to some touching and poignant art pieces.

They produced pieces of writing and art based on the war as well as an installation of ribbon and paper poppies.

Bexley councillor Danny Hackett said he was "honoured to be part of the Remembrance Day parade in Sidcup", noting a "huge turnout to mark the centenary of the end of the Great War."
