A popular Crystal Palace restaurant that closed due to 'challenging' economic conditions a month ago has reopened under a new name as a cafe.

Domali Bar and Kitchen, which served largely vegetarian food for 22 years, shut on October 1, citing the economic climate as the reason for the 'difficult decision.'

But the owners have now announced the opening of a new venture, Reunion, at the same address.

In their latest statement, the owners said: "Dom and Alison, formerly of Domali Bar and Kitchen are back with a new venture.

"It's called Reunion and it's going to be a little different."

The new venue will function as a public cafe during weekdays, and a private venue for hire in the evening and on weekends.

Details of the menu are yet to be released.

In their previous statement, released at beginning of October, one of the owners, Alison McNaught, said: "After serving the community for 22 years and watching Crystal Palace develop into London’s best neighbourhood, we have taken the difficult decision to close Domali.

“The economic conditions of the past year have made it challenging to continue to serve the quality food and drink our customers expect while keeping our prices affordable."

The reopening's announcement came as a welcome surprise to locals, who took to social media to express their excitement.

Nicola Evans-Ireland said: "So glad to here this. Great idea! I'll be popping in very soon!"

Joe Brett added: "Very happy to see that you’re back. Good luck with the new venture and we’ll pop in soon."

Reunion Cafe is open for business at 38 Westow street.
